With his long history with the school district and the state, Holodick is the best selection, said board President Debra Heffernan in a statement. Holodick graduated from Concord High, taught in the Brandywine School District and was an assistant principal at Concord High School. Before becoming Concord principal, he was the principal at Delmar Middle and High School in lower Delaware.

Holodick said he believes his dedication to the district was an factor in becoming the final candidate.

"The school community has been very vocal in its request for someone to fill the position that is familiar with the district and plans to be involved in providing a quality education for all of its students for many years," he said.

He pledged to approach the schools chief job with the same enthusiasm he has had for every job he held as an educator, and said he plans to spend much time in school buildings, speaking with students, staff, parents, administrators and community members in order to have "a finger on the pulse of the district."

Dates for community meet and greets with Holodick are being scheduled. The board anticipates he will take office in October.
