White Clay Creek State Park held their tenth annual Veteran’s Day Storytelling and Apple Pie Social at the Judge Morris Estate on Sunday, Nov. 6. Approximately 40 people attended this year’s event, which included speeches from four different veterans.

Watson Day lives in North Wilmington and served on PT boats as a Metal Smith 1st Class in the Navy in both World War II and Korea from July 1942 to 1946.

Bill Georgov was born in Newark, NJ and now resides in Bear, DE. He served as a Corporal in Army Infantry for the 12th Armor Division from 1944 to 1946. After the war he did military police work looking for older Nazi’s.

Ray Holder, originally from Danville, VA, enlisted in the Navy in August 1941 at the age of 15 and served as a seaman at Pearl Harbor and throughout the Pacific.

Warner Schlaupitz served as a rifleman with the 24th Infantry Division, 34th Regiment. He saw action in New Guinea and the Philippines and was stationed in Occupied Japan. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He is a past Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Born in Germany, he received his citizenship papers in 1950.
