As part of Talley Middle School's month of service, students, staff and family members have been collecting “wish list” items for the Ronald McDonald House, then stuffing the items into a school bus to be delivered to families in need.
On Monday, Talley Middle School held an informal Light the Night celebration to allow anyone interested in participating in the event to bring their donated items and to Stuff the Bus. The list of items includes wipes, cereal, snacks, paper towels, freezer bags, gas cards, tissues, juice boxes, children’s CDs and toys, books, Lego sets, puzzles, dolls and more.
Additional donations were collected on Tuesday, Dec. 20 from students and staff at Talley Middle School. On their way to Ronald McDonald House, they stopped at Concord High School to collect more “wish list” items.
In addition to the Light the Night and Stuff the Bus activities, students at Talley are observing Talley Gives Back Community Service Month during the month of December. Some of the activities include bell ringing for the Salvation Army at Concord Mall, bake sales and a school dance to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.
Pam Cornforth, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House, said she was proud of the students’ hard work.
“The partnership is awesome,” she said. “They have worked so hard and have raised a lot of money.”
Cornforth said that it is important for children to learn at a young age about the important of giving back.
“If you start young, it will continue through your whole life,” she said.
She said that the Stuff the Bus campaign is important because it shows everybody how easy it is to get involved.
“Everybody can give back and every little bit matters,” Cornforth said.
