Greg Lavelle (R-Sharpley), who was first elected to the Delaware House of Representatives, 11th District, in 2000, will not run for reelection in November 2012. Lavelle said that the recent legislative redistricting process, which will slide the boundaries of the districts, making District 11 part of a “new” District 12, has influenced his decision not to seek reelection.

According to Lavelle, State Representative Deborah Hudson (R-Fairthorne) currently represents the “new” 12th Representative District, and Lavelle said he plans to support her in the upcoming election.

Lavelle stated that the trends in Delaware show more people from his district have been moving into southern New Castle County and points further south. “It is a demographic shift,” he said.

But, Lavelle believes that with changes come opportunity. He said once is term is up in 2012, he may consider running in the 4th senatorial district race or possibly in the private sector. “The decision to pursue a different elective office in 2012 will be made after additional discussions with my family, friends, employer and certainly current and prospective constituents,” Lavelle said.

Lavelle said he is currently focused on his existing responsibilities as State Representative and a legislative leader and at his other role as Managing Director for Puglisi & Associates in Newark.
