Do you think your kitchen could use a Formica facelift?

Then you’d better be taking notes along the Junior League of Wilmington’s seventh annual Heart of the Home Kitchen Tour on April 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The self-guided tour takes kitchen fans to 16 different homes, showcasing the cleanest, classiest and cleverest kitchen designs some of the area’s savviest home decorators could cook up.

Not salivating yet? Tour-goers will be able to sample food from local restaurants, including Corner Bistro, Caffe Gelato and the Back Burner, in each home.

Here are three homes the kitchen-enthusiast ought not to miss:

1. Jen and Dave Mench, 16th Street, Wilmington

Their turn-of-the-century city home received a major kitchen addition, including a wine refrigerator, Elkay undermount sink, Giallo ornamental granite countertops and cabinets in antique white and cherry with a butternut finish.

2. Norm and Paula Pernick, Westover Hills

The traditionally-styled kitchen is fully equipped to maximize a chef’s culinary potential, including granite countertops, two 27-inch fully integrated Sub-Zero refrigerators and 36-inch Wolf cook top and Wolf double-oven.

3. Joanne Foggy, Hockessin

Several new trends can be seen in this eat-in kitchen, like the marble countertops in Calcutta Gold and inset cabinets in Old Town Taupe, paired with classics like a French armoire.

Tickets for the tour cost $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event, and can be purchased online at www.jrleaguewilm.org. The tour will be held rain or shine.

Proceeds support the Junior League’s community programs and mission to promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women and improve communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
