A plan for the construction of an $80 million shopping center on Concord Pike has been pulled by the developer just days before a scheduled May 6 hearing in front of the New Castle County Planning Board.
Stoltz Real Estate Partners, based in Bryn Mawr, Pa., pulled the proposal for the Shoppes of Brandywine Valley on Friday after meeting with concerned civic leaders and receiving an unfavorable review by the county’s Land Use Department.
On April 23, the Land Use Department sent Stoltz a letter saying the submitted plan was “unacceptable” as filed.
The center, which would be anchored by a Whole Foods market, was to have included 237,000-square-feet of retail space, 27,000-square-feet of office space and 36 residential units totaling 100,000-square-feet.
“Over the past month and change, as Stoltz has met with residents and county and state officials, they’ve had some good conversations and have decided to make some changes,” said spokesman Tom Gailey. “We look forward to continuing our conversation with the community about what can be done there.”
Gailey said he did not know any specifics of the changes, but said Stoltz was still committed to the project and would re-file in the coming months.
A May 8 meeting of the Council for Civic Organizations of Brandywine Hundred on the plan has also been postponed.
