MADD Delaware Executive Director Nancy Raynor is calling for donations to help support the local office, whose services will be discontinued on Oct. 31 without significant financial aid.
"It is no secret that the economy has taken its toll on MADD and many other non-profits," said Raynor in a letter posted to the MADD website. "We have seen the direct effects with the closing of a few MADD offices throughout the country earlier this year. I am grateful that the MADD Delaware office was able to delay its closing in hopes of more prosperous times."
Part of that delay was helped along by the Georgetown Police Department's first annual benefit ride, which raised $5,000 for the office. That donation, however, was only able to keep the state branch - whose costs run approximately $50,000 per year - open a short while longer.
That cost covers staff support of victims, media outreach, general inquiries, volunteer recruitment, speaking opportunities and other programs and services.
"Without your help, there will no longer be local staff or a local office and the details of local contact efforts are still unclear," said Raynor.
Donations can be made payable to MADD Delaware and sent to: MADD Delaware, 2103 Caitlins Way, Millsboro, DE 19966. For more information, call 302-853-6233.
