WILMINGTON, DEL. —

This Halloween, beware the Brewster sisters of Brooklyn, New York… especially if you're a lonely, older bachelor. One drink of these elderly eccentrics' arsenic-laced elderberry wine could land you buried in their basement!

Meet Martha and Abby, a dangerous dynamic duo with a chilling sense of "charity" and an outrageously eclectic supporting cast in a magnificently macabre and madcap masterpiece. One of the theater's most endearing comedies, Joseph Kesselring's hilarious farce is an American classic.

It may be old, but it's certainly not weary — Joseph Kesselring's murderous comedy "Arsenic and Old Lace" premiered on Broadway in 1941, and you'd think the story about two old-maid killers would feel a little bit tired at this point. After all, just about every high school and community theater in the country has put on at least one production of the story in the last 70-odd years.

But director Stephanie Smith and the Cab Calloway School of the Arts actors prove that old dogs can still bite with this hilarious and surprisingly youthful (pardon the pun) production. The play's quirky, lovable characters and screwball writing make for a surefire hit no matter who's behind it, but luckily for us, this time it's in the hands of Wilmington's most talented student actors.

"Arsenic and Old Lace" runs Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the school, 100 North duPont Rd., in Wilmington. Single tickets range in price from $8 -$10 for all seats/performances. Groups of 10 or more receive discounted seats at $5.
