Capitol Little League celebrates 50 years of dedication of volunteers

The Capitol Little League recently held closing ceremonies during which it celebrated its Gold Award from Little League Inc for offering 50 years of youth baseball to the community and doled out its annual volunteer of the year award.

State and county Rep Bob. Gilligan (D-Sherwood Park) and New Castle County Council President Paul Clark (D-Newark) presented proclamations a the ceremony held at Vaught & Giofre Pyle Fields behind Brandywine Springs School Aug. 30.

The County's resolution, sponsored by County Councilman Tim Sheldon recognized Michele Giofre Pyle's 20-year commitment to county youth thru Midway Girls Softball as a president, coach and co-chair of its Field of Dreams Complex development and as Capitol Little League's current president, coach and chair for their new Capitol Complex at Br Springs School.

Pyle then presented Fran Trincia and George Matarese with the annual CLL Annual Pyle Driver Award, named in Pyle’s honor, to recognize the dedication of volunteers.

The Capitol Little League also honored its Junior Baseball team with a permanent sign on its wall of fame. The junior team won the District II title before finishing as the runner up for the state title.

The league’s members come from Elsmere, Mill Creek, Pike Creek and Hockessin.
