Hodgson Vo-Tech’s Joseph Woerner, Christopher Bahm and Trevor Sullivan each scored two goals and two assists in a 6-4 victory over Delaware Military Academy in the Delaware Scholastic Hockey Association’s Flight B championship Sunday at The Pond.
It was Hodgson’s first hockey championship, which was the goal at the beginning of the season, Hodgson coach Dan Hebert said.
“We finally came together at the end of the season. We did it,” he said. “We just wanted it more. We really wanted it for our goalie [Randall Kaufman]. This is his last year, and he definitely helped build the house.”
Hebert’s son, defenseman Ryan Hebert, was named the most valuable player.
“It was hard work. We had 5:30 in the morning practices all year,” he said. “We won it for No. 86 [Brandon Witt], who was supposed to play but things got confused.”
The Silver Eagles took a commanding 6-3 lead in the third period. DMA’s Kenneth Kearns, on assists by Daniel Kress and Tyler Golembrosky, scored at the 3:35 mark. DMA would never get past Kaufman (25 saves) again.
Golembrosky led the Seahawks with two goals.
DMA coach Joe D’Angelo said his team played well.
“Their goalie [Kaufman] is outstanding,” he said. “He played a great game. The last two games we played them, it was tough to score on them.”
