The same group of conservatives who banded together earlier this year to re-enact the Boston Tea Party to protest high taxes is forming a new educational group aimed at promoting a strict interpretation of the Constitution.
The group, called Founders Values, says its mission is to reinstate the principles and values of the founding fathers and foster a resurgence of "Constitutional Values."
"In order to solve the current problems in our state and our nation, we must return to the design provided by our founding fathers," said Executive Director Jon Sherman. "In fact, the reason for many of our problems is because we have forgotten [their] principles and values."
On June 24, the group plans to visit Legislative Hall in Dover to petition elected officials.
We will also have with us a list of our principles and values and will be asking all of the elected officials that we speak to, as well as any citizens in the area to read and agree to adhere to those values and principles, Sherman said.
The group also plans on educating school age children by sponsoring field trips "to help bring children closer to" the nations' founders.
“Our children are the key to continued prosperity," said Communications Director Evan Queitsch.
"We must keep the spirit alive in our posterity or the entire ideal of American Freedom risks being lost. We also recognize that nearly 100 million voting age Americans sat out the last election and we believe based on recent polling and a consensus within the group that the reason for that is many Americans feel apathetic about their chances of making a difference."
The group said it would not affiliate itself with any political party or candidate, but would grade legislators and other elected officials.
