Wilmington Christian School junior Emily Dorsey and Sanford School third-grader Grace Para are among 40 finalists in the Doodle 4 Google national competition where K-12 students design Google logos.
Judges and Google employees chose finalists based on which doodles best represent the "What I Wish for the World" theme.
Dorsey, 16, and Para, 8, are competing for a $15,000 college scholarship, a $25,000 technology grant for their school and the chance to have their work displayed on the Internet search engine's home page.
Para's logo has a sun, tree and hands throwing garbage into trash cans.
"My wish for the world is to save the environment, help clean streams, rivers, and oceans for the animals," she said in her submission.
Dorsey's logo was floral.
"Flowers bring color and fragrance into our lives," she said in her submission. "Their beauty and diversity reflects that of people."
