The Reading Assist Institute held their thirteenth annual Student Recognition Party on Thursday, May 19 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.
The Volunteer Planning Committee spent months preparing for the evening, which was dragon-themed, complete with face-painting, castle toss, creating a family crest, designing a dragon or castle, and a mysteries in the moat game. Students who received gold medals at the ceremony either completed every step of the program or only needed to participate in the program for a short time.
Brett Web, a former Reading Assist student, who is now finishing his freshman year in college at Lockhaven University, was the guest speaker at the ceremony.
Tyler Brock, 9, a student at Forest Oak Elementary, attended the festivities with his tutor Bob Christopher, sister Alivia, 5, and parents Kevin and Adrienne. “He has gotten his confidence back,” said Adrienne. “Reading’s exciting to him now.”
