Virginia “Ginger” Biasotto still gets emotional when she recalls the time her young son – the middle child – was tested by the school psychologist because of his inability to read by the sixth grade. Biasotto and her son’s journey led her to document their experience in the book, “Educating Andrew: A Promise Fulfilled.”

‘Year for Priests’ focus of this Advent’s Theology on Tap series

The Theology on Tap series is observing the “Year for Priests” by featuring four priests and one bishop as this year’s Advent presenters. The Diocese of Wilmington’s Office for Catholic Youth Ministry offers the free program for young adults in their 20s and 30s, married or single.

It’s a homecoming for the 1976 Archmere grad. As he reflects on leaving St. Edmonds, Marinelli shared some of his goals and motivations with the Community News.

Nearly 50 years ago, teenage brothers John and Tim Bishop hunted pheasant together on a plot of land across the street from their Old Kennett Road home.

Last Saturday, the Bishops spent the afternoon admiring the rolling, rural scenery of the same plot of land, now protected as part of the Kennett Township Land Trust’s Stateline Woods Nature Preserve.

Jack Markell will honor Anne Chaffin, of Hockessin, Chip Rankin, of Newport, and Erin Walters and Diane Rogerson, of Wilmington along with more than 30 other individuals and groups by presenting the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, at a dinner at Dover Downs.

Kristen Margiotta has always had a love for art. She volunteers at local Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and teaches at the Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn. She has artwork being shown in Wilmington, Elsmere and New Mexico.

One of her paintings is featured in a book released last month, “Max and the Siamese Twins,” and now, at 26, she’s promoting her first illustrated book, “Better Haunted Homes and Gardens.” It’s a big accomplishment for someone her age, she says.
