The 2009 winners of the McKenzie Travis College Softball Scholarship Fund were recently announced.
The McKenzie Travis Scholarship Fund, established by John and Jody Travis in the memory of their daughter McKenzie, provides financial assistance to college and college-bound female softball players throughout the nation.

Remembering McKenzie From the age of 2 as a benchwarmer for her sisters’ (Jessica and Dana) teams, McKenzie Travis was immersed in softball. For over a decade, she played recreationally for Midway and Holy Angels CYO Teams, competitively for Midway Orange Crush and Delaware Orange Crush and was a four-year varsity starter for Newark High School. She was killed in a car crash in 2006. |
The 2009 scholarship winners who have a Delaware connection are: Skye Boris (Caesar Rodney HS) Nikki Gayle (Caravel Academy), Emily Jump (Polytech HS) Allison Justice (Delaware Storm Travel Team), Melissa Miller (Concord HS), Kristina Wolfrom (Delaware Storm Travel Team), Amy Nepi (St. Elizabeth HS) and Bethany Pavlik (Sussex Tech HS).
The four out-of-state winners are: Gabrielle Adams (Univ.of Sciences - Philadelphia), Alyssa Clancy (SUNY Old Westbury College), Amanda Felzmann (Curry College), and Allison Haftel (Philadelphia University).
Since its inception, when five scholarships were awarded, the METF has increased the assistance it offers female athletes every year.
This year, 12 athletes were given $2,500 each.
In addition to being a member of a high school or college level softball team, scholarship eligibility requirements include a minimum cumulative 2.5 G.P.A., participation in the Delaware Invitational Tournament, and exceptional community/volunteer service. A committee helps select ideal candidates who are well-rounded, charismatic and compassionate for the scholarships.

The Delaware Invitational Tournament (delawareinvitational.com), held in July every year, is a showcase for college-bound female high school softball players throughout the East Coast.
