Q. Why did you decide to run for president of the KPA?

A. The KPA has a long and proud history of service to the community and it has been led by some dedicated people like Irenee duPont Jr., Hamilton Fish and Maynard Turk. Morgan Hendrey III did a terrific job from 1998 until 2006, and then Richard Beck ably led the organization until this year. I hope to help carry on the good work done by the trustees of KPA the best I can. We have a wonderful group of trustees who, quite frankly, don't need to be led much.

Q. As president, what do you hope to accomplish during your term?

Bio Box

Name: John R. Danzeisen
Age: 61
Resident of: Centreville
Town of birth: Philadelphia
Family: Wife Diane; two grown children, Tracie and Jason; three grandchildren; two yellow labs
Occupation: Retired from ICS Americas in 2002

A. In the early part of the 20th century, Pierre S. duPont and others like him helped to create a unique and beautiful environment along the Kennett Pike and Route 100 corridors. For the last 50 years, The KPA, in collaboration with other civic organizations like the Centreville Civic Association, Citizens for Responsible Growth in New Castle County (CRG), New Castle County Council, and Delaware Greenways, and supported by its many members comprised of both residents and business owners, has worked hard to preserve the beauty and heritage of this area for everyone to enjoy. I consider it a privilege to live here, and a privilege to represent such a fine group of people. I hope that, during my term as president, the beauty and heritage will not be diminished.

Q. What do you think will be the single most important issue the KPA will face during your term?

A. Right now, the combined effect of the four Stoltz development projects in Greenville, Barley Mill Plaza and in Brandywine Hundred, if they go ahead as presently proposed, will be devastating to the area's traffic, culture and charm. We hope that the alternative plans that have been proposed by CRG and supported by KPA, many other civic organizations, and most residents, will be adopted. Even if they are, there will always be other threats to our surroundings, and other developers who live elsewhere who will see an opportunity to cash in on the unique beauty of this area. The KPA will be there, doing its best to be the voice of reason. The KPA supports development, but only in a responsible way, a way that is sensitive to the surroundings.

Q. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about leadership?

A. Surround yourself with good people, and get out of their way when you need to.

Q. What do you like to do for fun?

A. I love my family and am enjoying my grandchildren thoroughly! I also enjoy my two dogs who keep me and my wife very active. I travel, fish a bit, golf a bit, and enjoy good wine, classical music and antiques. I devote most of my time since I retired to charitable causes.
