The Claymont Lions Club will present academic awards to five local graduating seniors at Wednesday ceremony.

Each student will receive a $1,500 cash award and a plaque from the club.

All of the students were recommended by teachers or guidance counselors from their respective schools. The students, their parents and school personnel are all invited to attend the event, which will be held at the Waterfall Banquet & Conference Center on Philadelphia Pike.

The Outsdanding Student Award honors students who have achieved in the classroom and in their community volunteer efforts. This year's winners are: Anna Izraylevich and Stephanie Lim, both Claymont residents and Concord seniors; Quinn McGrory, a Wilmington resident and Charter School senior; and Lily Ozer, and Arden resident and Cab Calloway senior.

"It's a great honor," said Izraylevich, 17, who will attend George Washington University next fall. "It's always wonderful to be recognized in the community."

Lim said she was thankful for the financial aide.

"I'm extremely grateful for this award," said the 17-year-old, who will study biochemistry at the University of Delaware next fall. "This is going to be a big help to me and it's extremely generous of them to choose me."

Also being presented is the George Bigger Memorial Vo-Tech Award to a graduating senior from the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District who has been successful in preparing for a technical career. The award honors the late George Bigger, one of 20 founders of the Claymont Lions Club in 1938. This year's Bigger Award winner is Delcastle High School senior Danielle Holden, of Claymont, who majored in Electronics.
