Newark, Del. —

Delaware Autism Program Director Peter Doehring has been named director of regional programs at the Center for Autism Research at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

In addition, Doehring will be interim director of clinical training at the hospital.

His new job comes with a faculty appointment at the School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania.

Doehring’s last day at the Delaware Autism Program is August 12, said Wendy Lapham, spokeswoman of the Christina School District.

Doehring began as statewide director of the Autism Program in 1999. During his time in that role, he oversaw unprecedented growth, Lapham said. From 1999 to the present, the Delaware Autism Program has doubled the number of school districts hosting approved programs, doubled the number students and staff and undertaken major capital construction projects at each of its county centers and residential programs.

The program serves nearly 700 students in six school districts and more than 30 community-based sites, with the support of more than 400 staff.

Doehring holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from McGill University and a master’s degree and doctorate in clinical and developmental psychology from Concordia University in Montreal.
