About Rev. Joseph Name: Rev. McLaughlin |
Q: Why did you decide to step down as Archmere headmaster?
A: I was headmaster from 1983 to 1996. I was asked in 2006 to complete the term of Father Zagarella, to June 30, 2010.
Q: Name someone who has had a major influence in your life.
A: Father Vincent Freiberg, a teacher at Archmere from 1966 until his death at Archmere in 1993
Q: Briefly describe a pivotal moment in your career.
A: On March 30, 1983 I was appointed as headmaster of Archmere, succeeding Father Justin Diny who had been headmaster from 1946 to 1983. I could not imagine myself succeeding him or able to do the job. I had always enjoyed teaching and working directly with high school students as a teacher/counselor/priest. I knew the new job would be mostly administrative, and would deal with areas of finance, fundraising and facilities, for which I felt little qualified. But, I said “yes” and the blessings flowed in abundance.
Q: Name up to three people you would love to meet.
A: Saint Norbert, Pope John XXIII, Thomas Merton
