Q. What do you enjoy about acting?
A. I like everything, from the costumes to the makeup, and being able to be someone else, even for just a little bit of time. You learn so much that you can’t learn in school. It’s just a lot of fun and you meet so many good people.
Q. What do you like about “Urinetown”?
A. It’s such a fun show to be doing, especially because I’m cast as one of the poor people. We get to just act like bums. There are tons of musical numbers with everyone in them and they are all so much fun. There are a few really good dance numbers, too.
Q. What was your most memorable experience in a performance?
A. I was Tiny Tim once in “Scrooge The Musical” at the Delaware Children’s Theater and I had to get my hair cut short because I was playing a boy.
Q. What have you learned from being on stage?
A. You definitely learn how to act around people, especially this show with All-State Theatre. It really teaches you responsibility and it teaches you how to get to know people, talk to people and include people because there are a lot of kids from different schools who don’t know anyone. After every rehearsal I come home learning something new.
Q. What is the biggest challenge to being on stage?
A. Remembering everything and then still building your character. You have to learn all the music, all the blocking, all the lines and still, every time you’re in a show, you have to have a character. Putting everything together is the hardest thing to do without messing up.
Q. What advice would you give to a budding actor or actress?
A. Now matter how many times you don’t get in a show, if you really love doing theater, you just have to keep auditioning. I didn’t make it into the first show that All-State Theatre did, but that didn’t stop me from trying out this year.
