A citizen-led town watch group has honored New Castle County Councilman David Tackett (D-Christiana) for his support for public safety efforts.

The Crime Prevention Area Watch group, which originated in Bear, honored Tackett with their annual award intended to thank individuals, businesses or organizations "dedicated to preserving the welfare, safety and security" of communities within New Castle County.

Tackett was selected from 28 nominees.

CPAW is a group of citizens that patrol their communities, acting as the eyes and ears for the New Castle County Police.

"I am honored to receive this award and look forward to continuing my great relationship with the men and women of CPAW so that children can play and a person can just sit on their front porch in a safe community," Tackett said.
