Teen's graffiti causes $11,000 worth of damage to property

New Castle County Police have arrested a 17-year-old New Castle teen and charged him with several counts of criminal mischief in connection to graffiti.

 


The arrest came after officers discovered that he used black spray paint to damage property within the developments of Bayview Manor and Llangolen Estates, Cpl. John Weglarz Sr. said.

At 9:33 a.m. Saturday, County Police responded to the aforementioned communities for several reports of property that had been damaged overnight, Weglarz said. When officers arrived, it was discovered that the following properties were vandalized:

    * the vinyl siding of a home in the 400 block of Sterling Avenue
    * the vinyl fence of a home in the 400 block of Sterling Avenue
    * a vehicle that was parked in the driveway of a home in the 300 block of Wooddale Avenue
    * the street and curbside in front of a home in the unit block of Phoebe Farms Road

During the investigation, it was learned that a wallet was found near one of the crime scenes, Weglarz said. Police made contact with the owner, who was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile, and he responded to county headquarters. He was interviewed, and officers then confirmed his involvement in the crime.

The 17-year-old, who resides in the 200 block of Brylgon in the community of Baldton, was charged with two counts of criminal Mischief and two counts of felony criminal mischief.

He was arraigned and released to his parents on $500 unsecured bail.
