The Delaware Center for Horticulture’s Wilmington City Gardens Contest recognizes Wilmington gardeners for their contributions to a greener city.

Volunteers can participate by either entering their gardens, or by judging. No previous experience is necessary.

This event truly brings together the best of what Wilmington gardeners and judges have to offer.

The Wilmington City Gardens Contest has long been a free, fun, social event that draws strong participation from folks from the suburbs as judges, Delaware Center for Horticulture Communications Coordinator Andréa Miller said. The contest leads small groups of judges on an adventure throughout the city, and behind the scenes into backyard habitats, porch container gardens and little oases tucked in unusual urban nooks and ends with a judges' luncheon back at The DCH in Trolley Square.

Refreshments are served during judging.

For details about the event, and profiles of previous judges and winners visit DCH’s website at www.thedch.org/activities-events/city-gardens-contest. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.)

The judge entry deadline is June 24.

For more information, contact Special Events Coordinator Marcia Stephenson at 658-6262, ext. 105 or mstephenson@thedch.org.
