Hockessin’s median family income in 2008 was $137,998, compared to $159,633 in CNN's richest town, Holmdel, in Monmouth County, N.J. One thing Holmdel has that Hockessin doesn’t – a helicopter pad for residents who’d rather leave their Escalades at home.

The magazine calls Hockessin a bedroom community of wealthy professionals and academics whose million-dollar homes have replaced the farms that once dotted the countryside.
Hockessin was the only Delaware town named on any of CNNMoney.com’s lists, which rank towns from the magazine’s database of 1,800 communities with populations 8,500 to 50,000. The rankings are based on criteria like home affordability, job growth, commute time and clean air.
Louisville, Colo., a suburb of Denver, was named this year’s best place to live. But money clearly isn't everything, because Louisville's median family income was only $102,688.
