Center for Horticulture to host gardening talks

The Delaware Center for Horticulture will present “Help for the Home Gardener” each Wednesday in February.

Experts from throughout the northeast will visit the DCH Trolley Square to help gardeners find inspiration and to offer advice.

The five scheduled lectures are:

The Artful Garden
7-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Liz Schumacher, owner of Garden Accents, will offer tips on using art and plant material creatively.

Urban Trees
7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Jason Grabosky of Rutgers University will discuss how to select and care for newly planted trees and how to maximize the environmental and esthetic benefits of landscaping.

One Writer’s Garden: Eudora Welty’s Home Place
7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Author Jane Roy Brown will discuss the suburban garden and the rise of garden clubs.

Witch Hazels: The Prince of Winter
7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Randy Kobetich will discuss the uses of Witch Hazel, a low-maintenance, fragrant shrub that adds a burst of bright yellow, orange or red flowers.

Deliciously Homegrown
 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.
Harold Taylor will discuss home vegetable gardening, including when to sow seeds, what vegetables are most worth growing and secrets to avoid pest problems.

Light refreshments will be served at the lectures.

Attendance at each lectures will cost $10 fir members and $15 for non-members. People who enroll in the full five-lecture series will receive 20 percent discount.
