A 27-year-old Stanton man was arrested on drug charges after running from police and falling into a creek on Monday, Jan. 25, New Castle County Police said.

Safe Streets Officers were working in Clover Leaf Trailer Park when they received a tip about a possible drug deal that was going to happen in one of the trailers. Police saw Richard Melendez, 27, of W. Newport Pike, try to enter the trailer at 2:40 p.m.

When challenged by police, Melendez ran, but police caught him when he fell into a nearby creek, police said. While he was running way, he threw away a bag of crack cocaine, police said.

Melendez was charged with delivery of cocaine, possession with the intent to deliver cocaine, conspiracy, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence. He posted bail.
