Three men are facing drug and weapons charges after parking in a county park after dark drew police attention.
Police on patrol at 5:30 p.m. saw a car parked in Rosehill Gardens Park near Newport. When police approached the car, they smelled marijuana and saw some on the car's seats, police said.
Jamaal Jackson, 22, of Rose Lane, Darry Williams, 21, of Ryan Avenue and Michael Battle, 22, of W. 25th Street, were all charged with trespassing for being in a county park after dark. Williams was also wanted by Wilmington Police in connection with a previous shooting.
Police searched the car and found a loaded Tech 9 automatic handgun with a 30-round magazine hidden under the front seat and a loaded .22 caliber handgun.
In addition to trespassing, Williams was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, two counts of conspiracy, possession of marijuana, possession of drugs within 300 feet of a church, possession of drugs within 300 feet of a park and tampering with evidence.
Battle was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon and two counts of conspiracy.
Jackson was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon and two counts of conspiracy.
