New Castle County Police are investigating a series of mischief complaints at a Korean church in Hockessin that have recently been reclassified as hate crimes.
Since late June, police say they have investigated more than six property damage crimes at the Korean United Methodist Church on Loveville Road. In each case, police say the church’s stone sign has been vandalized. In some instances, graffiti has also been sprayed on the property police believe is hate-related. The most recent incident occurred late Wednesday, July 21 or early Thursday, July 22, when the church was again spray-painted.
County police are also investigating a similar crime at the nearby community of Stuyvesant Hills, where an entrance sign was spray-painted and later stolen. Graffiti has also recently been reported at Wilmington Christian.
