Students were transformed into independent filmmakers last week at the Hearts and Minds Film studios on the Wilmington Riverfront through Media Mentors: a leadership development program designed to use the media arts as a tool to create a more engaged society.
As part of the program, students from Delaware State University and other colleges participated in a week-long workshop in film production and media literacy from professional cameramen, scriptwriters, actors, and directors. During the second week, college students became Media Mentors for a group of young teenagers from local organizations. They spent the week producing short films about issues that affect their communities, and screened them at a mini-festival on the final day of the workshop.
