A woman was stabbed before disarming a 66-year-old man in Five Points, near Elsemere, according to Delaware State Police.
The suspect, John “Jack” Lecarpentier IV, was a friend of the victim several months ago. According to police, she stopped talking to him after he his strange and delusional behavior scared her.
Around 5 p.m. on August 15, Lecarpentier called the victim and convinced her to come over, by saying he was dying of cancer. When she arrived, Lecarpentier is reported to have told her they were married, and then grabbed the victim to kiss her.
The woman broke away and, according to police, Lecarpentier pulled out a 10-inch knife and lunged at the victim. She disarmed him but sustained a four-inch cut on her hand from grabbing the blade. The woman ran to a neighbor's house and called 911. She was later treated and released from Christiana Hospital.
Lecarpentier was charged with attempted assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and threatening bodily harm. He was turned over to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in default of $10,500 secured bond.
