To the Editor:
As the owner of Hockessin Sunoco at 7427 Lancaster Pike, I am furious with the erroneous information printed on the front page of your newspaper, dated May 29, 2008. My first concern is why this was printed. I was contacted by your newspaper last week and immediately informed you that it was incorrect information. We have never been even close to $4.50 per gallon and I told you that. My neighbor at 7441 Lancaster Pike was listed at $4.60 per gallon in your newspaper and he has also never been close to that. Is this your policy on all issues? Verify information and regardless of fact, print it. It seems as though you have printed something just for the affect of eye-catching headline and certainly not truth.
I have been a Hockessin resident for 15 years and as a business owner, I contribute to my community in every way I can. In today’s market, we are working very hard to keep our prices as low as we can at all time. The general public has no idea how oil companies control pricing in different locations, and we, as dealers, consistently struggle to keep prices down.
I have been bombarded by complaints this morning and have no idea, as yet, how your failure to verify and publish correct information will hurt my business. I demand that you take immediate responsibility for this blatant breach of trust with the Hockessin community. I also expect a retraction to be printed outlining how I was contacted prior to publishing, informed you that the information was erroneous and you printed it regardless of fact

Editor's Note: A typing error was responsible for the incorrect price of gasoline being reported for two Hockessin gas stations in a story about $4 gas. Gasoline prices for the stations, including Hockessin Sunoco, were converted from $4.049 and $4.059 to $4.05 and $4.06 respectively. The Community News printed a front page correction and apologizes for the error.
