Wilmington, Del. —

New Castle County Police are investigating two unrelated robberies of pizza deliverymen they fear could be the start of a growing crime trend.

In each case, a food order was placed by bandits who robbed the pizza deliveryman when he arrived to deliver the order.

On Saturday night, just after 9:30 p.m., police responded to the Canby Park Apartments where a 33-year-old victim told police a man jumped out from behind a bush and robbed him of the food and cash at gunpoint.

According to police, it was the second armed robbery of a similar nature to occur in the community within the past week.

The suspect was described as a black man wearing dark clothing.

The second incident occurred Sunday just after 7:30 p.m. in the Newark community of Woodland Trails. There, an order was placed for multiple pizzas, wings and drinks and when the 51-year-old deliveryman arrived, he was approached from behind and ordered to give up his money and punched in the face, according to police. When he tried to flee, he was tackled to the ground and robbed by force.

The suspects in the Newark case are described as a white male and a black male wearing dark colored clothing.
