Q. Why do you want to be chairperson of the Hockessin DRAC?

A. First, because the committee asked me to serve this in the position. Second, I believe I have leadership and organizational skills that will serve our committee well.

Q. What do you hope the Hockessin DRAC achieves in the next year and how do you want to shape the organization?

A. First, I hope DRAC supports the local businesses as they endure the construction on Old Lancaster Pike. Once the construction is finished, Old Lancaster Pike will be a polished alternative roadway to Route 41. In the meantime, business owners are working hard to

compensate for the interruptions construction brings. I recently attended a Hockessin Business Association meeting and was impressed with the ideas and spirit of collaboration shown by the business owners. The DRAC wants the business owners to know that we are listening when they speak of the challenges posed by the construction, and that we support their efforts.

Next, I hope DRAC completes the revision of the Hockessin Village signage guidelines. The existing guidelines were set up many years ago. They served the committee well, but needed to be updated to reflect the ever changing landscape of Hockessin Village. Revising the guidelines has been a long and reflective process focused on balancing the aesthetic desires of the village residential community with the desires of businesses and local organizations.

Finally, I hope DRAC increases the number of business people on the DRAC. The DRAC has advisory power to shape the future plan of Hockessin Village. Both residents and business people are needed to balance the committee. So in the next year, we'll be looking to add a member or two to the DRAC.

Q. What is one key to being an effective leader?

A. Understand that at all times you are a role model.

Q. What is your single biggest day-to-day challenge?

A. Balancing the needs of my family, my job and my individual interests.

Q. Finish this sentence “I am …” three ways.

A. I am very grateful for all I have been given in this life. I am willing to work hard to help ensure that Hockessin continues to be a desirable place for future generations to live. I am trying not to take myself too seriously!
