The Red Clay Consolidated School District postponed a public hearing on its proposed class size waiver scheduled for Wednesday night at Brandywine Springs School.
By state law, a public hearing of this nature must be advertised in a public newspaper two weeks prior, Red Clay spokeswoman Pati D. Nash said. But a clerical error put Red Clay in violation of that law, even though the district advertised via e-mail and notified all PTAs.
The public hearing has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Stanton Middle School.
Red Clay and neighboring districts usually waive the state's class size requirement of no more than 22 students per teacher in grades one through five provided they hold public hearings. They say it is because the state does not provide funding for all the elementary school positions needed.
