The lights may be up and the tree may be trimmed, but it just wouldn’t be Christmastime in Hockessin without the traditional holiday sing-a-long.
Not to disappoint, this year’s caroling will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Hockessin Memorial Hall and, as always, the event is free and open to the public.
The evening will feature performances by the Hockessin Dance Center followed by about a half hour of caroling, said Jean Toman, an event organizer who will again play Mrs. Claus.
She and Santa Claus, played by Pike Creek dentist Dr. Robert Hahn, will be on hand to greet everyone after the carols and all the kids will have the opportunity to tell Santa what they want for Christmas, Toman said.
While admission is free, visitors are asked to bring a nonperishable food item that will be donated to the Hockessin Community Center’s food closet.
The caroling tradition, which dates back to the early 1990s, is indicative of the close-knit community Hockessin remains, she said.
“It’s a great way to start the holiday,” she said. “Christmas is all about kids and being a kid again, no matter how old you are.”
