Marshallton, Del. —

Rev. Patricia Bryant Harris, pastor of the Marshallton United Methodist Church, will be honored Sunday for becoming the first black woman to give an opening prayer in Congress.

Harris, 61, who led the U.S. Senate in prayer in July, will be honored at an 11 a.m. service at the Stanton Road church. Members of Delaware’s Congressional Delegation are expected to attend.

Before joining the Marshallton congregation, Harris served as the superintendent of the United Methodist Church’s Salisbury District.
