The Hockessin Design Review Advisory Committee voted to approve a parking variance for a proposed Old Lancaster Pike restaurant at its Jan. 18 meeting.
Gregory Swift and his sister, Susan, plan to open a prepared meal takeout restaurant in a commercially-zoned residence adjacent to Swift Park that currently houses apartments. They bought the property four months ago, Swift said.
County code requires 11 parking spaces for the planned first-floor restaurant and second-floor apartment, but the property only has six spaces.
The parking variance must be approved by the Department of Land Use before it is official.
Susan, who runs The Farmhouse, a catering service on Old Capitol Trail, said she hopes to open the takeout restaurant by early May.
The restaurant, which will provide soups and sandwiches during lunchtime, will let dinnertime customers walk in and choose fully-prepared meals or call ahead to pick up an order, she said.
