Motorists are asked to avoid driving in Wilmington, if possible, so city Public Works crews can continue to plow streets and transport snow without interference from vehicles that become disabled in the snow.
The plowing and snow removal operation is continuing without interruption on Friday, Feb. 13.
There is no prohibition on travel in Wilmington but motorists are advised to drive cautiously because of ice and compacted snow on many streets. Motorists are further advised that vehicles that become disabled and interfere with snow removal equipment and emergency vehicles will be towed at the owners’ expense.
Wilmington continues to operate under a state of emergency and the city’s Emergency Operations Plan.City government offices are closed today, but essential personnel did report.
Residents are asked to pay special attention to fire hydrants today as they are shoveling snow in their communities. It is important that hydrants are clear of snow and visible in case of an emergency.
People may call the Public Works Call Center at 576-3879 for any non-emergency questions/concerns about the street and road surface clean-up that is underway. This number replaces the Emergency Operations Center telephone number because the center has been deactivated.

Citizens are advised to tune to the city’s television station, WITN, Channel 22 on the Comcast Network or log onto www.WilmingtonDE.gov to receive updated information.
The Mayor’s Office and Office of Emergency Management will issue other advisories as needed.
