Students, parents and faculty members helped beautify John Dickinson High School in Pike Creek during the Sports Boosters' back to school cleanup on Aug. 23. They collected trash, cleaned out flower beds and painted in preparation for the first day of school on Aug. 26.

Red Clay ’09 budget increases by 3.9 percent, cash balance up

The Red Clay Consolidated School District has a preliminary budget in place for the 2009 fiscal year that increases spending by 3.9 percent to $160. 6 million, while revenues are expected to be up 7.9 percent to $167 million.

Yorklyn Road Bridge to close

Yorklyn Road’s bridge over the Red Clay Creek will close 6 a.m. Tuesday August 19 for maintenance, according to the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). The work, which includes removing lead paint, cleaning and repainting to extend the life of the bridge, is expected to be complete September 2.
