The Charter School of Wilmington, like many other schools, is short on cash for extra programming this year because of budget cuts.
Even in tough economic times, or maybe especially in them, kids benefit from music, band, art, academic clubs, journalism and a host of other extra curricular activities. Those cost money, so a group of parents and students have gotten together to raise some by selling gently used clothing.
Charter’s First Annual Gently Used Clothing Event will be a win-win for the school and community at large, as neighbors may be looking for ways to stretch a dollar, said Ellen Reid, one of the event organizers.
A school-wide collection was held earlier this month, with a friendly competition between grades, she said. It worked: kids hauled in shoes, sweaters, men’s suits, children’s clothes and outerwear aplenty on the bus and in their parents trunks.
The sale will be held Dec. 6, 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Charter School on Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington. For more information, contact Ellen Reid at ellenrcsw@gmail.com, or 654-2980.
