Prestige Academy Charter School, Delaware’s first and only all-boys charter school celebrated the acquisition of a new school building On Monday, Oct. 19, with a ribbon cutting ceremony, reception and tours.

Before Prestige moved to its new location at 1121 Thatcher St. in Wilmington, the school was located in the Police Athletic League (PAL) building on North Market Street. Opening in fall 2008 with 103 fifth-graders, Prestige plans to expand one grade every year, until it reaches the eighth grade and 400 boys in 2012.

U.S. Sen. Tom Carper was the Keynote Speaker and U.S. Rep. Mike Castle was the honored guest along with other public officials, business leaders, educators and community leaders.

In addition to the building acquisition, the academy also celebrated a new partnership with ING Direct, which includes a major grant and loan package that will assist the school in achieving its educational mission.
