After battle, UD students allowed to distribute conservative paper

Newark, Del. —

A group of University of Delaware students have been cleared to distribute a locally produced, conservative newspaper, The Lamplighter, on the Newark campus. The University already has a sanctioned student newspaper, The Review, which has been on campus for more than 50 years.

School and state officials assured worried parents at John Dickinson High School Oct. 1 that steps are under way to help schools learn faster about criminal activity by any students. The Dickinson community was plunged into grief and dismay following the Sept. 23 rape of a staff member by a Central School special education student who was playing football for Dickinson.

Thomas McKean High School is the only school in Red Clay with its own radio station, WMHS 88.1 FM. But the radio station is transmitting a weak signal due to failing equipment. Principal Sherry Gross and teacher Rashod Coleman have ordered new parts and are determined to restore WMHS to its heyday.

Brandywine Hundred's Albert Einstein Academy has adopted a "Go Green" theme for the 2008-9 school year and has already seen a significant reduction in trash.  After rounding up recyclable items, teacher Melissa Hinspeter and her students wheel the bin through the parking lot to one of Delaware State Waste Authority's Recycling Centers, which is housed on the campus the school shares with the Bernard and Ruth Siegel Jewish Community Center.

The Christina School District needs a new brand that will improve morale amongst its employees and allow onlookers to readily identify what the state’s largest school district is all about. According to Aloysius Butler & Clark marketing firm, a big part of doing that is establishing a new logo that connotes the dawn of a new era of success in  the state's largest school district.

The process of rebuilding John Dickinson High School's marching band bore fruit Friday night as new director Matt Pagel led an impressive peformance -- from the band's procession into Dickinson Stadium to its halftime show of three songs. Rebuilding the band is part of the school's overall effort to rebuild its academics and prestige in the community.
