New Castle County workers earn $133 more than the national average

Workers in New Castle County earn the 48th highest wage among large counties in the United States, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average weekly wage in New Castle County was $1,031 in the fourth quarter of last year, $133 higher than the national average.

But the County ranked 219th in wage growth, which increased 2 percent from $1,004 in the fourth quarter of 2006.

The County’s average wage reached a five-year high of $1,065 at the end of the fourth quarter, 2005.

Kent and Sussex County both had average weekly wages below the national average in 2007, at $720 and $673, respectively.

New York, N.Y., held the top position among highest paid counties, with an average weekly wage of $1,862 and Cameron County, Texas, was at the bottom of the list, with an average weekly wage of $555.
