The Blood Bank of Delmarva was honored by the American Diabetes Association for being the first blood bank in the nation to offer diabetes screening to every blood donor.

The blood bank’s diabetes program, which recently passed the two-year mark, has screened more than 102,000 donations. Elevated glucose levels were found in 5,044 donations and 62 people were in the dangerous category of over 400.

About one third of diabetics are unaware they have the disease.
