General Electric Renewable Energy selected the Port of Wilmington as its mid-Atlantic discharge port for the company’s largest energy projects in 2009.

The first shipment of wind turbine blades arrived at the port on June 29 and port officials expect as many as five additional shipments.

Each blade is more than 122 feet long, 10 feet high and weighs 12,500 pounds. GE Energy has installed 12,000 wind turbines in 19 countries which have generated 100,000 gigawatt-hours of energy.
