What is it?
Just across the Delaware border, Chaddsford Winery will unite with 60 other wineries in the state of Pennsylvania in The Great Pennsylvania Wine Toast, while hoping to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest wine tasting ever held. The event will kickoff with a simulcast toast from Mario Andretti, a Pennsylvania native and racing legend, and will be broadcast to all participating wineries in the state. More than two years ago, on May 21, 2008, the United Kingdom set the simultaneous tasting record with 17,540 people across 400 pubs. Proceeds for the event, which is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Wine Association (PWA), will support The Fund to Benefit Children & Youth, whose mission is to provide neglected, abused and at-risk children with items and services they cannot receive from traditional sources. Chaddsford will host the toast at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
What's happening?
Guests can hangout at the winery and partake in pre-toast festivities such as: touring Chaddford’s winemaking and barrel-aging cellars, wine tasting or picnicking on the outdoor patio and grounds to the tunes of live music, which will be begin at 2 p.m. Pennsylvania Rep. Steve Barrar will serve as the official Guinness counter and lead the countdown to the toast. Each visitor who participates in raising a glass at Chaddsford will receive a free wine glass filled with Spring Wine.
