An axe-wielding man was arrested Monday after a miniature crime spree in the Brandywine Hundred communities of McDaniel Heights and Concord Manor.

Police say 20-year-old Scott Cullin stole items from a home, a nearby shed and at least one car before being caught early Monday morning. Police say Cullin was caught trying to break into one man's car, but threatened the victim with an axe when confronted.

The victim told police Cullin was wearing a red jersey and police found him just after 6 a.m. lurking around the community. He was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a checkbook, two cell phones, prescription medication containers, a large amount of loose change, some paper cash, sunglasses, a vehicle change holder and an ashtray belonging to a Volkswagen. Police also found the axe within a few feet of the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Cullin was already wanted by police for a burglary he had committed on May 2 in the community of Mariane in Wilmington. There, police say he stole $10,000 in jewelry and cash from a home.

He has been charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of felony theft, conspiracy and criminal mischief. He was arraigned and released after posting $15,300 secured bail.
