Two hundred feet of copper utility wire was stolen, likely in the middle of the night to early morning Friday, August 15, shutting down Artisan Gifts and Furniture and Brandywine Rug Company in the Fairfax Shopping Center.
An investigation indicates that four 20-foot sections of copper power line, which ran from a transformer to an underground conduit, were taken. The lines resurfaced and ran into a steel junction box, which was fixed to the rear of the stores.
The suspect(s) appear to have removed the protective hardware from the wire, connected it to a vehicle and pulled out the remaining underground wire.
The wire loss is estimated at $1,000, according to police.
Delaware State Police urge anyone with information to contact Troop 1 at 761-6677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
