The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts announces a series of four free family programs during the winter and spring 2010 season. Activities are for all ages and each program has a specific theme that will relate to the galleries and the day’s art activities. Families will have the opportunity to take tours of the galleries, explore the museum with a scavenger hunt and create artwork with the guidance of a teaching artist.
No pre-registration is required. These events are free and open to the public.

The sound play program will be from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 for ages 4 and older. Visiting artist Ashley John Pigford will transform the DCCA into a playful, interactive sound experience for kids and their families. Families are invited to play with sound recording, playback and effects through various interactive devices located throughout the DCCA. This collaborative and playful experience is intended to inspire curiosity about sound and sound technology as a form of art.
The SPLASH: An Exploration of Paint program will be from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 21, for ages 4 and older.
Families are invited to visit the galleries with DCCA to compare and contrast the different types of paintings on view. Smocks will be provided.
The animation station will be from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 18, for ages 4 and older.
Families can join DCCA resident artist Carlos Ferguson and Tiny Circus for an afternoon of stop motion animation. Families will have the opportunity to make their own paper characters that will star in animated shorts. Families are encouraged to return to the DCCA on the evening of Friday, May 7, for a video screening of animated films that will include pieces created during the family program.
The Art and Community Picnic and Outdoor Video Screening will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 7.
