Wilmington-native Deborah Grossman has been named the sixth poet laureate of Pleasanton, Calif.

The poet laureate writes poems for civic events and promotes the literary arts in the community, a suburb of San Francisco.

Grossman, a graduate of the University of Delaware, has written poems her entire life and published her first book of poetry, “Goldie and Me,” in 2006.

“Poetry lifts voices, minds and hearts in our neighborhood and around the world,” she said. “Poems blend reality and imagination about the present, past and future—and expand one’s horizons at any age.”

She judges poetry at numerous school competitions throughout northern California and works as an independent food and wine journalist.
